Story of Your Song

Behind every song, there is a story – and we intend to share them.

This Old Love – Lior

In my opinion, this is the greatest love song ever written.

The lyrics. The melody. The story. They’re all just so perfectly… perfect.

I first heard this song after purchasing my very first Triple J hottest 100 compilation CD. I believe it was the 2006 edition, or maybe 2007, I can’t really remember. What I do remember what this song.

I played that CD over and over until it became scratched and Lior’s ballad skipped every time it got to the chorus, but I still sang along.

Lior is known for his poetic and lyrical way of song writing, and this song is no exception.

It’s a simple song, don’t get me wrong, but that’s what makes it triumph, because it’s familiarity with the listener.

Even as a pudgy, socially awkward 14 year old, I knew instantly that the love Lior sang of was the kind of love that I wanted.

Better than the chick flicks that my friends indulged in, this song was my emotional porn, and it’s safe to say, it still is to this day.

Now, I hope when I say this that it’s kept in the confidence of my two readers (hi Mum), but I plan to use Lior’s tune as my wedding song.

I probably won’t be the first to the use it, and definitely won’t be the last, but every time I hear it, it makes me excited about growing old with someone. And I figure, that’s the way you should feel on your wedding day, right?

Well said, Lauren, a great song, but he borrows a bit from Paul Simon, most especially the album cover, see Paul’s first solo record.
